The mass is composed of multiple variably sized and shaped vascular channels filled with varying numbers of erythrocytes. Each vascular structure is enclosed and lined by plump endothelial cells and aligned on small amount of pre-existing splenic trabeculae or fibrous stroma. The endothelial cells have minimal cytoplasm and enlarged, oval and finely stippled chromatic nuclei with single prominent nucleoli. The mitotic activity is 1/hpf in average. The septal collagen and several caverns show infiltration by numerous lymphocytes, plasma cells, some hemosiderin-laden macrophages and scattered hemosiderin. Along the affected region, there are large numbers of megakaryocytes. Focal area of specimen display hemorrhage and mild fibrosis
